Obviously most of these Farm Fresh Friday posts are going to be written on Saturdays, but I refuse to give up the alliteration, so you guys are just going to have to humor me. Thank you. On with the post:
Basically, we’re loving life. I think I am really suited for this small town-country-farm life. I feel lighter and happier. Our quality of life has improved so vastly. And Rob has never smiled as big as he does when he drives this tractor:
We’re starting to have regular weekly orders from local natural food stores, so we’ve been harvesting a lot! Our lettuce is looking so beautiful. Before coming to the farm, I never really considered the aesthetic qualities of lettuce, but it’s hard to deny the beauty of this red and green butterhead.

In our family, we are serious about food! (You probably already guessed that, though.) And yes, that definitely extends to sweets. My sweet tooth is fierce, but I don’t like to sacrifice quality or eat a lot of chemicals to enjoy a gummy treat. That’s why I love The Organic Candy Factory. The creator of this awesome candy company is a mom herself, who set out to create candies that are free of dyes, toxins, and chemicals. And man, are these candies delicious. My favorites are the gummy cubs, an organic take on gummy bears. They have great flavors like blackberry, strawberry, and cherry. Continue Reading →
Yay! Time for another Wake Up Wednesday! Please share your favorite post and spread the love. (Sorry I’m a couple of hours late! My post didn’t show up as scheduled :/)
It’s that time again! Get ready for another week of
We actually did this project a couple weeks ago, but Clare has played with it almost everyday since! Most moms know how hard it is to find a toy that keeps your child interested. This one did that and only cast $1, so I’d say it was a huge success!
And simple too! I started with some dollar store craft foam
Look at those gorgeous blossoms! Spring is here! I can’t believe that we arrived in the middle of a blizzard just six weeks ago. We’ve been enjoying absolutely beautiful weather this week. It’s getting me so excited for summer!
Speaking of summer, we’re just 5 weeks away from our first farmer’s market. We spent this week planting what we’ll need for the farmer’s market. If everything goes as planned, I think we’re going to blow people away with the amount of produce we have this early in the season. Hurray for aquaponics!
We celebrated the gorgeous weather by taking out the awesome Step 2 water table that my sister got Clare for her 2nd birthday. She loves it even more now than she did then! We are going to get a lot of good use out of it this summer. Continue Reading →
Last week’s link up was awesome! Thank you to everyone who joined us! Please join us again this week to link up your favorite posts and don’t forget to share the party with friends. The more the merrier!
I decided that this week I’m going to go crazy and make a bunch of homemade tortillas, so most of the recipes this week are going to be tortilla-centric. If you haven’t ever made your own tortillas, definitely do it. They are so much cheaper and a million times yummier than store- bought tortillas. They also freeze and reheat well, so you can make a ton and then store them for later. To reheat them, just put a stack on a plate and cover with a damp paper towel, then put them in the microwave for 30-60 seconds.
So now that you’re ready to make a bunch of tortillas, here’s this week’s recipes: Continue Reading →
Once again, I know it’s Saturday, but I started coming down with a cold last night that pretty much knocked me on my feet for the last 24 hours. I’m feeling a little better now, and I’m sure my strength will improve greatly after I eat some of the brownies I have in the oven right now.
Another busy week on the farm! There’s never a dull moment around here. We got 800 pounds of fish delivered on Monday for the aquaponics system. We lost some along the way this week, but learned a lot about aquaculture. It’s a constant learning and growing process as we build the aquaponics system, and with every slight setback, we take away a lesson. Our plants are growing and the greenhouse is filling up, so we are feeling great!
Rob has been plugging away at the CSA and spent today calling all of our members from last year. What’s a CSA, you ask? Here’s how Rob explains it: Continue Reading →
